This is the short version of our full Thailand trip write-up — including the one travel agency we’d actively tell you to avoid, and the real costs for every leg.

At a glance

  • The route: Krabi (1 night) → Koh Phangan (2 nights) → Bangkok (day stop) → Sukhothai (1.5 nights) → Bangkok (3 nights) → Ayutthaya (day trip).
  • How long you need: 8-9 days total, as above.
  • Best time to go: November to February for the most comfortable weather across the country. If you’re building the trip around the Full Moon Party specifically, check the actual party date first — it’s monthly, tied to the lunar calendar, independent of season.
  • Budget: Costs varied a lot by leg — quadruple-share rooms ran roughly THB 375-2,625 per person depending on the stop, food and drinks were THB 150-350 per person per meal, and inter-city transfers ran roughly THB 400-1,700 per person per leg. See the full blog post for the exact cost of every leg.
  • Visa: Indian passport holders currently get 30 days visa-free entry to Thailand (reduced from 60 days as of a July 2026 update) — complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before you fly.
  • Getting around: A mix of flights, buses, ferries, and private cabs — see the full post for exact costs on every leg, including one agency worth avoiding entirely on the Koh Phangan-to-Surat Thani transfer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Krabi a good place to fly into instead of Bangkok? It worked well here specifically because of a new direct flight and faster onward travel to Koh Phangan — worth checking current routes for your own trip rather than assuming Bangkok is the default best entry point.

How long do I need for Sukhothai? A day and a half is workable if you’re tight on time, but a full 2 nights gives you more breathing room to properly explore the historical park.

Is the day trip to Ayutthaya worth doing from Bangkok, or should I stay overnight there? A day trip works well, especially as a group — a private cab there and back can end up cost-equivalent to public transport once you account for group size.

Do I need to book Full Moon Party accommodation in advance? Strongly recommended — prices rise noticeably on party nights specifically, and good places sell out.
